Diana Plaisance Magical Expressionist Fine Art Paintings

Artist Statement and Bio

I was born in New Orleans in 1978 into an old Louisiana family. At age fifteen I began my serious practice of painting in oils and acrylics. For the past sixteen years I have remained devoted to painting and to the development of a unique style and vision. I studied Fine Art at the University of South Alabama in Mobile, but I consider myself to be mainly self-taught. Currently I am living in Hawaii with my husband and two children.

For me, painting is a way to really see and experience the magnificent beauty in life and in the natural world. The universe is just bursting with movement and energy, brilliant colors, and dazzling light. As an artist I see these things all around me, all the time. I have a deep fascination with colors, patterns, and ornamentation of all kinds. Much of my personal inspiration develops out of my passion for the study of fairy tales, folklore, and mythology; while my subject matter is most often derived directly from dreams and my unique experience of nature.

My signature palette is a tapestry of rich jewel tones, vibrant primaries, and genuine gold leaf illumination. My husband and children are a constant source of inspiration as well, and I often have my children working right along side of me on their own artistic endeavors.
